UK Youth started in 1911 with a number of clubs that were originally designed to offer young girls a haven and place to go where they could learn the tools of life in the rapidly changing time of the Industrial revolution.
By 1940 there were 1,900 clubs in existence for both boys and girls, offering the children of the UK support and encouragement, extra to the family home, during their formative years. Throughout the war years many of the clubs remained open and active, offering much needed help to young people whose family and social life was uprooted.
UK Youth has consistently exceeded expectations throughout its 100 years without the need to publicise its activities. It has been honoured since its beginnings with the support of some of the most important people in the UK. The President of UK Youth is Nigel Mansell OBE, former F1 world champion, and the current Patron is HRH The Princess Royal, and we continue to receive the support of HRH Prince Michael of Kent, who was a previous Patron.

To celebrate its centenary UK Youth has started the Positive About Youth campaign, which is designed to change the perceptions of the public towards the youth of the United Kingdom. The campaign will highlight
UK Youth's work and achievements with schools, colleges, employers, trusts, foundations and many individuals, to raise young people’s aspirations. It realises young people’s potential and recognises their achievements through non-formal, accredited learning programmes
and activities.
"Young people are at the heart of everything we do and our work with young people makes a lasting impact by encouraging them to take responsibility and become involved"
John Bateman, CEO UK Youth
